Polarised Sunglasses

Whether you are buying the hottest Ray-Ban polarized sunglasses or the cheapest polarized sunglasses available, such as those from the SmartBuy Collection, polarized sunglasses offer a plethora of benefits. However, they aren’t for everyone. Read on to find out what they are and if they’re for you!

What are polarized sunglasses?

So what is polarized sunglasses? What does polarized sunglasses mean? Well, normal non-polarized sunglasses protect your eyes from the sun’s UV rays that come in a vertical direction, directly from the sun. A polarized lens will double this protection. How? A polarized lens essentially adds an extra layer of protection. The polarized filter will block out different rays to normal sunglasses. Polarized lenses block sunlight that infiltrates your eyes horizontally. The rays of light become horizontal when they bounce off other surfaces, such as water or metal. When the horizontal and vertical rays combine on your eye, a blinding effect known as glare is caused. This can be dangerous to your eyesight and physical health as when blind - who knows what could happen.

As a consequence, polarized sunglasses are recommended for specific activities, particularly where light reflection is an issue. For example, driving, cycling or running on roads. The sunlight can easily bounce off metal car parts, and you wouldn’t want to become temporarily blinded while on a busy road. The other environment where polarized sunglasses are a must is by water as the surface reflects a lot of sunlight. It is therefore important to have extra protection when practising water or even snow sports, or when spending a day at the beach.
